Parking Information
Free parking during the day on Friday will be available behind the Houston Field House (#52). RPI shuttle buses run on a regular schedule between these lots and main campus. The closest stop is the Student Union (#35).Free parking during the day on Saturday will be available in both the Academy Hall lot (#67) and the Alumni Sports & Recreation Center (#37), which are both very close to the Biotech Center.
Directions to Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
By Car
From the East (Massachusetts):- Take I-90 West.
- After crossing into NYS, take the third exit, #B-1. Here, I-90 branches off, while the I-90 Berkshire Bypass continues straight. There should be a sign to Albany there.
- After cresting a hill, and crossing high above the Hudson river, exit to I-787 north.
- Take I-787 North to the exit for "Rt. 7 East, Troy-Bennington". Follow signs for Rt. 7, Hoosick Street. This goes east, back over the Hudson river. You don't change direction, but have to change lanes and merge left a few times. (Note to Street Atlas 5 users: this exit is drawn wrong.)
- Continue up the hill, east, on Hoosick St. At the 4th traffic light (about 1/2 mile), turn right (south) onto 15th Street. There might be a sign before the intersection pointing to RPI. This is also the first street after a strip mall, the Troy Plaza, on the right.
- Continue south for about a mile, on 15th Street.
- Turn left on Peoples avenue to reach the parking lots near the Houston Field House (Friday & Saturday). Continue through campus (underneath the pedestrian bridge) to reach the Alumni Sports & Recreation Center lot (Saturday only). And turn right on College avenue to reach the Academy Hall lot (Saturday only). Refer to the RPI Campus Map.
- Take I-87, the New York State Thruway, North to Exit 23.
- At Exit 23, get on I-787 North to Route 7 East.
- Follow the directions to campus above.
From the North:
- Take I-87, the Adirondack Northway, South to Exit 7 East.
- Get on Route 7 headed Eastbound.
- Follow the directions to campus above.
From the West:
- Take I-90, the New York State Thruway, to Exit 24.
- From Exit 24, continue onto I-90 East.
- Exit onto I-787 North.
- Take I-787 North to Route 7 East.
- Follow the directions to campus above.
By Plane
The Albany International Airport is 15 minutes from campus. Taxis are available at the airport.- Leaving the airport, turn left onto Route 155, follow for 1/10 of a mile.
- At the traffic light, turn left onto Albany Shaker Road.
- Get on I-87 North via ramp on the left.
- Take exit 7 onto Route 7 toward Troy.
- Follow the directions to campus above.
