Alok Choudhary received his Ph.D. from University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, in Electrical and Computer Engineering, in 1989, M.S. from University of Massachusetts, Amherst, in 1986 and B.E.(Hons.) from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, India in 1982. Currently, he is a professor in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department at Northwestern University. From 1993 to 1996 he was an associate professor in the ECE department at Syracuse University and from 1989 to 1993 he was an assistant professor in the same department. He has worked as a computer consultant prior to 1984.

Alok Choudhary received the National Science Foundation's Young Investigator Award in 1993 (1993-1999). He has also received an IEEE Engineering Foundation award, an IBM Faculty Development award and an Intel Research Council award.

His main research interests are in high-performance computing and communication systems and their applications in many domains including information processing, data mining and scientific computing. In particular, his interests lie in the design and evaluation of architectures and software systems (from system software such as runtime systems, compilers and programming languages to applications), high-performance servers, high-performance datamining and input-output. He has published more than 150 papers in various journals and conferences in the above areas. He has also written a book and several book chapters on the above topics.
