The Computer Science Department is recruiting undergraduate programming mentors for Spring 2016 courses.
Please apply online here by 11:59PM Wednesday 1/20/2016. Applications received after this deadline will still be considered, but only based on availability of positions.
Undergraduate programming mentors help students better understand computer science and, more specifically, programming. Mentoring occurs during labs and class time, with either the instructor or TA heading each session. Mentors also meet as a group periodically throughout the semester to receive instruction as to how to best mentor.
We currently have limited funding for programming mentors. You may also opt to mentor for course credit, which counts as a 1-credit or 2-credit free elective (depending on the number of hours per week; in general, a 2-hour weekly lab counts as 1 credit).
For CSCI-1100, CSCI-1200, and CSCI-2300, each mentor is expected to work 2 lab sessions (so please indicate multiple lab sections that fit your schedule).
If you have never mentored before, you are not eligible for pay and may only be a mentor for credit.
Note that no more than 4 such credits may be earned as an undergraduate (spanning all courses and all semesters). Please do not apply for credit if you have already earned 4 credits as a mentor; apply only for pay.
Also note that you cannot be a mentor for a course you will be taking in the same semester (or for a course you plan to take in the future).
You are allowed to mentor for courses you have never taken (just be sure to describe equivalent courses/experiences in the general comments textbox below).
Feel free to send any questions to Professor Goldschmidt.
